St Andrews, a Course for every day of the week
The St Andrews Links Trust now lists seven courses, the first of course being the Old Course and the latest addition being The Castle Course. The Links Trust is a charity formed to take over the links from the St Andrews Town Council when that was abolished in 1974. The courses belong not to exclusive private clubs, not even the infamous Royal and Ancient, who merely own the club house overlooking the Old Course, but to the people of St Andrews and their visitors. OK you might have to put your name into a ballot to get on the Old Course where demand is very high almost the whole year round, but you can get on. The Trust can be found at www.standrews.org.uk.
A little further up the coast there are two courses at the relatively new Fairmount Hotel. Go to www.fairmontgolf.com/standrews for more details of the Torrance and The Kittocks courses.
A little further still will bring you to Kingsbarns. Details at www.kingsbarns.com
The Old Course Hotel, famously overlooking the Old Course – some would say a part of the seventeenth hole –own the Dukes Course nearby, which you can see at www.oldcoursehotel.co.uk/golf/dukes_landing.html
